Barack Obama decided to hold his last political rally before the election here in Manassas. The rally started at 9:00 pm, but gates opened at 5:00 pm. It took place about 2 miles down the street from us. Starting at about 5:15 traffic was backed up and stopped in front of our neighborhood. It took Helena 2 hours to get home and took me almost 45 min. just to get Alexis from daycare and come back home. Below is some (very dark) video of the scene by our house taken THREE HOURS after traffic first started backing up. People decided to park along the streets in front of our neighborhood and throughout our neighborhood and walk the rest of the way (After our streets were completely full I flagged down a guy who was with his daughter and let him park in my driveway) He said he was coming from Vienna and it had taken him almost three hours to get there. Wow!
UPDATE: According to the Washington Post, Obama's campaign estimated the size of the crowd at around 80,000 people! The chief of police said it was one of the largest gatherings the county has ever seen. Not bad for a republican leaning district. (Something else interesting to note: McCain held a rally in Manassas on Oct 18. The crowd estimate for that event was about a couple thousand people)
